Students first practiced and drew their image on paper, then transferred them onto foam when they were ready.  In addition to discussing terminology and procedures for pulling a print, we discussed color combinations to accentuate the lines. Students had a wonderful time!

Illuminated manuscripts

This was certainly one of the more complicated and labor intensive lessons we tackled this year. Student in 5th - 8th grade were first taught the basics of calligraphy writing, and then discussed the history behind illuminated manuscripts and the need to preserve knowledge, religious text, and history using only the written word.  Students were then asked to bring in a meaningful quote or write one themselves, and create an illuminated manuscript from that work.
